About

Cencora is a multinational company with more than 45,000 employees and a presence in the USA and Europe, working in the area of medical care: drug studies, logistics and supply of hospitals and pharmacies, proprietary products, business consulting, etc.

The Zaragoza subsidiary is responsible for creating technological solutions for the entire group. From the portals for pharmaceutical distribution to those that deal with the relationship with the laboratories. Dozens of projects, complex and with dependencies to offer professional services within the health sector.

Challenge

The big challenge was to turn a Software Factory into a product company, creating common solutions for all markets and countries and taking care of consistency, scalability and delivery dates in products that affect thousands of customers.

To meet the challenge, aligned development teams were created and work began on implementing agile methodologies and more efficient working methods.

Project

In my personal case I was in charge of the B2B portal under the supervision of the Product Owner of the whole project, and aligned with the Product Manager and the development team. Working on migrating the functionalities of the current portal and taking into account the hundreds of business requirements.

The process was to investigate and understand each of the functionalities (medicine recycling, shipment reception control, order management, invoices...), see improvement options aligned with the different stakeholders and create functional prototypes and explanatory documentation so that the development team could be as autonomous as possible. I also created user stories and product documentation with the functionalities in production and the new features that were being implemented.

The specific actions to achieve the desired results were:

  • Review and maintenance of a design system that can scale and align with the company's main design system. Each project had the impact and scope to require its own components and solutions, although everything had to maintain the elements of the Cencora brand.

  • Create a culture of design. Work on the results, understand the importance of the data, change the point of view from the company to the user.

    • Specific internal training actions

  • Conceptualize, document and propose solutions for each of the functionalities. Taking into account the complexity and the different implementation phases.

Results

After six months of professional relationship, we decided to look for other paths that would be better suited to our objectives. In any case, the foundations are prepared and continuing with the work will achieve a functional product and a change in the way of working. They have the necessary resources and talent to accomplish it.
