Remote work & Opportunities
About

My partner in the project, Asier Marqués, and I recognized long ago that remote work was not just a vision of the future but a present reality. With this understanding, we embarked on a journey to create a product that would promote mobility among both companies and professionals - RentMyDesk.

Challenge
The prevailing challenge we identified was the stress and complexity associated with relocating from one province or country to another in pursuit of one's professional aspirations. In response, we developed a solution that allows professionals to find temporary workspaces, whether they were moving for family reasons, attending events, or simply driven by a spirit of adventure.
Moreover, we believed that companies could greatly benefit from having diverse talent in their offices, fostering connections and opportunities without the need for active recruitment. This could lead to new hires, collaborative projects, or the expansion of a high-quality network.
Additionally, we felt a responsibility to ease the transition for recent graduates considering work in another country. Our platform allowed them to design a pilot experience by working on their own projects in offices in cities like London or Berlin. This offered them the chance to make valuable contacts, explore new environments, and determine if a particular location was the right fit for their career before committing to a permanent job.
Project
I don't perceive design and development as distinct disciplines, so we seamlessly integrated both aspects through a collaborative approach we referred to as 'pair design/programming.' This synergistic approach came naturally to us. My responsibilities included establishing remote desk contacts, engaging with freelance professionals, managing human resources interactions, liaising with external companies, and, of course, overseeing the design of the brand and website.

Results
Our efforts culminated in the establishment of a network of offices and coworking spaces, with two key roles: the host and the remote worker. Hosts facilitated the experience, while remote workers enjoyed the flexibility and opportunities it provided. We painstakingly built a network of contacts, launched our website, and rigorously tested the project's viability.
