Discovery
What have we found related to this project?
Existing platforms. (Wallapop, Vinted…). There are already applications that allow the exchange of objects, in some cases at no cost. They are very focused on including shipping and insurance, which, along with advertising, allows companies to finance themselves.
Nolotiro
A non-profit exchange platform.
Juguetea
A project to leave toys freely and for free in parks so that any child can take them and return them once they no longer need them.
A project that used a television channel in a charity campaign.
Book Crossing
An international book exchange system with tracking.
In many cities, towns, and cafes, there are places to leave books to read there or take them. An example of one of the most stored and shareable objects.
Object libraries. Obtain objects we need on a temporary basis.
Rental platforms.
A way to have a second device, try new technology… before buying or for a specific need (for example, a new team member who needs a laptop for 6 months).
Mass exchanges.
Gatherings to share, usually books. A lovely project was the exchange of stories in which a child shared with another and told them why they liked it. The experience went beyond the object, focusing on relationships, the ability to integrate and connect, trust, etc.
Things to Consider
There are factors beyond the exchange to consider to avoid legal issues, unpleasant situations, etc.
Security: An exchange can be an opportunity for theft or intimidation… therefore, the service itself must take this into account and seek specific and safe places or protocols to prevent such situations.
Harassment: Networks of all kinds (including LinkedIn and even Bizum) are used to harass ex-partners, especially when they lack systems (like blocking, whitelists…) that allow for safe use. This should be a priority.
We can investigate the use of channels (like Telegram) instead of individual communications, the requirement to register with real data, and the existence of moderators or intermediaries in transactions… this deserves deeper investigation, as a secure service can be a differentiator.
Opportunities
There are groups, such as fashion enthusiasts, that could be an interesting "niche." If handbag rentals are successful, why not a system for completing "outfits," creating relationships between enthusiasts in a specific field (photography, modeling…)? Would a subscription service be viable to enter a secure network and gain access to thousands of products I am interested in?
What weaknesses do current networks have? Unpleasant treatment? Insulting bargaining? Informality? Studying this can help us find a profitable and attractive position for our project.
